Hello, I’m Deepak,

My path so far has been varied: shopfloor management, procurement, career mentoring, systems design and wheel clamping (yes, you read that right). What I took from all of it is that people’s behaviour is shaped by personality, but more substantially by the systems and people around them.

That led me to explore organisational psychology, where I ended up specialising and training in human factors. I have previously worked on fatigue resilience research with commercial airline pilots, using heart rate variability (HRV) data and mindfulness techniques to reduce the effects of fatigue. More recently, my focus is on operationalising situational awareness beyond the theory: using its three levels (notice, think, anticipate) to help people understand their own decisions and processes (in particular risk-triggered commentary), and to help make sense of past incidents.

In my workshops, I apply Transactional Analysis principles, tracking the transactions between delegates to understand individual and group dynamics, and intervening where appropriate so that everyone has an equal chance to be heard and to learn.

Outside human factors, I work in disability support, supporting neurodivergent people and people with SpLDs. I use a person-centred approach, and whatever I design, whether a workshop for my delegates, an action plan for a client or a system I may be redesigning, the human user is where I start and where I end.
When work gets heavy, I do a bit of leathercrafting and badminton. More recently I have started learning bass guitar (just to maintain some neuroplasticity).

I believe in effecting positive change, whether in human factors or in disability support. Change is inevitable, but we can choose is its direction. To paraphrase Heraclitus: “No person ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and they are not the same person.”
